Thread: Decision Time is coming.

  1. #1

    Question Decision Time is coming.

    Ladies and Gentlemen,
As you are all aware, our company was asked to design and run the 2010 Buell Muster to Tasmania. We designed a very good event taking in all the things that we were asked to do. We based all of our pricing (and the pricing from our suppliers) on the figure of 60 attendees.

As we have all seen, this figure was not backed up by the deposits. Make no mistake here please, for I am not posting this to apportion blame, for there is none. This sort of thing happens and I have no time for "finger pointing"... that is a game for children.

What I really like to do, is deal with the situation and offer up solutions... so here are the choices:

1/ We ask every person who is coming to make sure that they invite one "Non-Bueller" and we open it up to a select group of other people such as existing clients of ours.

    OR

2/ We modify the price according to the numbers of Buellers that are coming. This would happen because all the prices we were given from our suppliers was based on 60 people.
The pricing would be as follows:
25-29 Participants: Cost would be an extra $400/person on the standard package.

30-39 Participants: Cost would be an extra $300/person on the standard package.

40-49 Participants: Cost would be an extra $150/person on the standard package.

50-59 Participants: Cost would be an extra $60/person on the standard package.

If we go over 70 people, we will be looking at adding some benefits to the event.

At this stage, I am still not overly concerned. I have been fielding enquiries from non-buell owners and we can take them as a separate group if required. At this stage we have about 12 on the list. Also, I would suggest that you each invite one Non-Bueller yourselves. I am also going to be placing an Advert or two in some magazines. Some Press Releases will also be going out in November, December and January.

So please have a discussion in here about what you all want to do so that we can gain an idea on what direction to go.

    Regards,

    Rob Colligan

Thanks Rob - I know you have put a great deal of time & effort into this & I look forward to buying you a beer in Tassie.

My personal preference would be to keep it for Buellers - & possibly friends of those going - as we have always done in the past.

We are a close knit group & enjoy each others company & it is, after all a Buell Muster & I think it would be "cosier" with the smaller numbers.

The extra $400, or whatever it turns out to be, doesn't really worry me BUT I can see where it would be a problem to others - especially the couples who are attending.

I'm going either way, no matter the cost, whoever else comes along - I (& Dave) will be there.

As you said, there will most likely be others interested from the posters, ads etc. We found a new starter last weekend

No need for panic just yet - but that's why I asked you to post your figures now so we can get people's thoughts & they know what options lie ahead.

If all those who have paid their deposit let us know their thoughts (here) we can go from there

Hmmmm... Not shocked as i knew it would have to be one of these two options. I know Rob has a business to run (& a well run, quality business at that!) but something had to give. Am of the same opinion as Wes & Larry, because that's what its all about, right? In the same breath, $1450 was do-able for me, i could whack whatever shortfall on the ol' plastic... . $1850 means i have to have a bit of a think about it...

for me ,its starting to get very pricey.

Buell Muster Tassie 2010, to me anyway, has never been about how much it was going to cost to participate, its always been about getting together with people that share the same passion as me. Owning and riding Buells, so if it is going to cost me an extra $400 so be it, Im going no matter what the cost. I can understand that an extra 400 may tip the scales for some Buell people and they may feel that it is now too expensive and may now pull out, so I hope we can some how generate enough interest to keep the costs down to a minimum, but in the same breath the Muster is about BUELLS so I hope we dont get swamped by Jap and Harley riders wanting to tag along. It seems to me we are now sort of stuck between a rock and a hard place. I do feel though the number of non BUELLS should be kept to a minimum. Cheers Dozer.

I agree, 20something buells and forty jap bikes sounds like not much fun.
Having said that, a close-knit group is gonna cost us more.
i can't not invite others, my partner will be there and she doesn't ride at all.
Perhaps we should assume that anyone wanting to join us might be someone worth meeting, and not just a tear-ass......
after all we have a couple of those already, and they're okay.

    We'll still go no matter.

Just to clarify, my company was asked to design and quote on a trip to Tassie for 60 people. We have done so. You will forgive my bluntness, as I destroyed my bike yesterday and am feeling a bit second hand today... however, the one shining light is.... BIKE SHOPPING!
